Play date at the beach

My friend and I met when our children were still small. Now we are both grandmothers, with a granddaughter each who is four years old. For a while we've spoken of getting them together. Yesterday it happened. We met at the beach, and the two little explorers picked up their buckets and headed off to see what they could find.
The beach is full of treasure. 'Look what we found!'
'Let's go and find some more.' And so they did, while we two grannies sat and talked the talk of women who are keeping an eye on young ones, (for we also had my friend's little fourteen month old who sat and ate banana and crackers.)
What a treat to sit, and chat and watch, while gulls plunged their beaks into the muddy fringe of the sea, herons stalked in their elegant way, and two black swans appeared. They swam in synch, just like the two little girls, who fell into the rhythm of companionship with such ease.
This golden summer, while so hard on the land and the farmers, is bringing treasure all the same.

Hi Juliet - what a lovely day to share with your friend of yore - especially having the three little ones to keep you busy watching while they 'worked' for their treasure ..

Delightful and wonderful selection of shells ... cheers Hilary

* Hilary, it was so special, and a different way to be with my friend. We were two happy grannies! This beach has a great variety of shells. I hope you are having a good rest.
Thank you.

What a testimony to a long lasting friendship, Juliet, and the budding friendship of your grandchildren. I love these circles of life and how they bring us to these wondrous points in time where, no matter what storms brew, all seems right with the world for a time between the waves and the seashells. Lovely post.

* Penny, what a beautiful comment. Circles of life, that's it exactly, and the space between the waves and the seashells - that's magical territory. The weather will change, but I will always remember these moments when time stood still and all was well.
Thank you.

This weather makes it very easy to live in a relaxed state.

The two explorers remind me to potter about and see where the inclination takes me.....treasures could await me too.

PS fingers crossed for rain to fall to ease the pain of so many on the land.

* Lynley, it is so relaxing and easy when every day is fine and calm. Today we have just had a gentle shower, almost like a mist. Let's hope there will be more.

* Diana, glad you enjoyed filling your pockets.

* Friko, it's so special being a grandmother. I am loving it.

Thank you Lynley, Diana and Friko, much appreciated.

Oh how special What a delight to see these little girls collecting shells. You see these Shell shells a lot in golden Bay as well There are lots of them in our garden where they ended up a while after each holiday

* Hi Marja. shells keep on giving delight, don't they? I remember diving for scallops one summer at Totaranui, so close to Golden Bay, and being amazed at how abundant they were.
Thank you for dropping in.

So lovely , your post, Juliet. So many strands of love and friendship, nature and peace. This was exactly my own childhood. The west coast, looking endlessly for treasure on the beach. I have loved this long, long summer, no longer distressed by heat as I grow older. The yin/yang of life. What can be so lovely can also cause such worry and struggle.
